Revolution

© Breeze Vincinz

I’m in love with revolution

And the soldiers of revolution

And the revolution of soldiers

whose heads protect our hearts

I’ll use my heart to protect your head

And your dead

And your bed

And your red

That you said

Would be spilled for honorable things

Thank you for thinking

I am an honorable thing

I am thinking

Of a room filled with afros

And incense

And intent

And revolution

Whose boundaries extend beyond

Sea to shining sea

Whose love doesn’t spill from

Seed to shining seed

And men who have the courage to need

And women who have the ingenuity to lead

And children who aware of the bleeding

It took to get them here

From both

From different wounds

From different wombs

There has never been

A frivolous war

Or a war that has been fought

Frivolously

And I don’t enjoy the fight

But I long for the win

Because I know what is right

I have asked the wind

And he has told me

With every breath

With every push

With every gust

With every blush

To always

choose

love

Which I know

is fodder

To the brothas

Slinging

Starving

Surviving

In my neighborhood

But I know

That somewhere down the line

They could have

And they should have

But they didn’t

For whatever reason

But if they ever want to

I’ll be here

And I’ll listen to ‘em

And I’ll let them speak of the love

They’ve wanted

So bad

For so long

From so many people

Mother deliver me

Father please find me

Brother don’t leave me

Sister believe me

Lover please fuck me

Wind listen to me

Breeze listen to me

And I will

Cause I was there

I remember

My kaleidoscope dreams

In my monochromatic project

And a world

of infinite possibilities

Just beyond

And a light

Of infinite possibilities

Just behind

My brother’s eyes

And how

When we got older

I saw the world

Do it’s best

To dim that light

And tell us

You belong in the dark

Because the dark is reality

And for you

There is nothing

Just beyond

Just Lily White delusions

And we bought it

And we bought Cadillacs

And we bought gold teeth

And we bought gold chains

And we bought shoes more expensive than our section 8 rent

And we bought pants whose crotch hangs to the floor

And we bought weed

And we sold weed

And we sold ourselves

And nobody seems to care about that anymore

That chronic leaf in our heads used to be a rainbow once upon a time

But we talk about that anymore

I used to believe

In this idyllic place

Or maybe idyllic resolutions

Where people could catch their breath

When they lost it

But I don’t think

We ever will

Because the world

It keeps going

And in Chicago

It keeps snowing

And in Spa 6

The infant mortality rate keeps growing

And there’s nothing

you can do

But just remember

to breathe

Because the world

It keeps going

And the trick

Is not to fall

But we have

And we got the brothers in the bowties

Saying “Allah wants you to get up”

And we got the brothers in the pulpit

Saying “Jesus wants you to get up”

And we got the brothers in the government

Saying “Uncle Sam wants you get to get up”

And when I get on my soapbox

Saying “I just want you to get up”

Everybody smacks me down

Saying “We didn’t give you authority to speak, you stay down.”

But I was there

I was there

And I remember

Our kaleidoscope dreams

In my monochromatic project

And a world

of infinite possibilities

Just beyond

And a light

Of infinite possibilities

Just behind

My brother’s eyes

And I know

How much my brothers want that back

No matter the Cadillacs

or gold teeth

or gold chains

or shoes more expensive than our section 8 rent

or pants whose crotch hangs to the floor

or weed bought

or weed sold

And I know

The struggle

The brothers are going through

To help their families

And I know

The war

To keep anything of value

Including your dignity

And I thank the brothers

And the sisters

Who have fought the good fight

To remind us of that light

Of infinite possibilities

That we still have

And I praise the brothers

And the sisters

Who fight the good fight

In their own families

In their own communities

And I praise the brothers

And the sisters

Who fight the questionable fight

Across seas for contributing

An effort to spread that light

Of infinite possibilities

Across the world

Because

As I see it

Revolution

Is Illumination

And letting every one see

That you don’t have to take this shit

If you really don’t want to

And all these distractions

Gold teeth, gold chains, droopy pants and weed

Has nothing to do with reality

Has nothing to do with being black

But everything to do with holding us back

The Revolution

The Illumination

Will show we don’t have to swipe a credit card down a girl’s ass to be a man

Will show we don’t have to be shout nine times to be a man

Will show we don’t have to treat our women like concubines to be man

Will show we don’t have to take this shit

If we really don’t want to

And I for one

am in love with the revolution

And the soldiers of the revolution

And the revolution of soldiers

whose heads protect our hearts

I’ll use my heart to protect your head

And your dead

And your bed

And your red

That you said

Would be spilled for honorable things

Thank you for thinking

I am an honorable thing
